We just returned from a six day trip and enjoyed almost every aspect of the vacation except for a few minor issues including transport to the hotel and the first room assigned. Our plane arrived late into SD so we were forced to take a private car which cost over $200 us when you can take a caribe tours bus for under $10 each which no one told us about then we arrived at the resort only to be given a room that was leaking wate from the ceiling and the bath tub did not work properly after two days we were finally given another room. The facilities, staff, food, and location was fantastic and we would certainly go back
The rooms were very clean and big, service was friendly and prompt. There are a few slots in the day when food is not being served (6-7p, 10-11pm) I wish the pool and jacuzzi were open til later, the area is all powered down and stripped at 6pm. No irons in the room, and when the front desk was called it never came.
The location and views are stunning. The facility was comfortable.

This resort has everything you need to spend a quiet and relaxing vacation. Everyone is pleasant and helpfull. The all inclusive made it easy to enjoy the variety of wonderful food and drinks it offered. I highly recommend this resort.
The location and grounds are BEAUTIFUL and it was just refurbished in nov 2006 so everything looks new. When we arrived, reception was good although I was there 3 times bc the key to my room wasnt working. After the third try, someone finally came with me to reprogram the key. Reception needs more training. Constantly called the front desk (from day 1) for an iron and did not get it till the day I checked out. Was inquiring about potentially having a wedding there and the wedding rep told me everything could be accomodated and would give me a tour. She made an appt for me and never showed up. The mgr had to step in and basically negated everything she said and said they would not be able to accomodate a large group. This was afer the mgr himself gave us the run around and we had issues with him bc they were changing the rates for day passes and you could never get a clear answer. I left the resort with plans of getting quotes and even spoke to florists (which they had come in)....
This trip was okay. I t is a beautiful resort but they had no air conditioning while I stayed for 3 days. Also my room wa s far from everything even the pool. My family and I were always taken upto the pool area by a small cart. Also the elevator to go to the beach was messed up. I would not return,.
This was one of the best vacations I've been on. Jose, front lobby host, Danny at the reception desk and Wanda hostress in the buffet made this hotel worth returning to again and again and again! Well kept hotel. They was always refreshing the paint and cleaning with bleach. I'm happy that I chose this hotel and the location of Samana. Great people, pleasant attitude, friendly and wanting to please. And the food was very good. Large selection at the buffet. I'm already looking for a deal from my next visit. Thanks to the Grand Bahia Principe Cayacoa staff mentioned. Without you guys I don't know if I would have enjoyed myself as much.
Beautiful environment. Nice private beach. Great breakfasts and dinners. Easy to get seated at pools, beaches, and buffet restaurants. Great bar service on the beach. You can't book specialty dinners until you arrive, and they were booked the first night we got there. Bed was rock hard. Lunch buffets were not very good. All-inclusive was nice, but the only wines included were house wines which weren't good, and no light beer. Our biggest complaint was the discovery, after we got there, that there was a big push to sell you on their vacation club/time-share, and the transportation company they use to get you to and from the hotel also tries to sell you excursions.
the hotel is in a nice location, the staff is nice and helpful, the food is not to good, but you cant expect a lot for the price..
Definitely go for the Golden Package and try to get one of the buildings close to the beach. They start at 1 (closest to the beach) and go up from there. The higher the number, the farther away from the beach. The place has an outstanding beach and all watersports are included. The buffet is ok, not fantastic but still way worth the price. If you go out to any Restaurants outside the Hotel, they are very reasonably priced and the food is amazing. Hotel still has a very varied menu in the buffet and fruits are fresh as are many other things. If you have a chance, rent a quad and go for a ride outside the property. Las Terrenas is an amazing place. For a romantic dinner, go to a Restaurant called Mi Corazon, I left speechless. Also the Beach Restaurant owned by The Peninsula House Hotel is also a stop you will always remember. Bottom Line, its has a fantastic beach, big rooms, varied Buffet, but if you need gourmet food you'll have to ride for 5 minutes to the plethora of amazing restaur...
i wouldn't give this hotel more then 3 stars. the first day that we came to the hotel our safe didn't work and we had to wait 2 hours until some one came to fix the problem ( every time we called they said less then 5 min). our room was so far from the ocean. the night life is dead over there after 11pm they turn off the lights in the lounge. we went twice to the club and we were the only one there. the food in the buffet is the same or similar every night the dessert is the almost the same every night. grand bahia principe is a well known resort but this one gives this chain of resorts bad name
The people that work here are Excellent! They are always smiling and happy to help out. The restaurant food was excellent. The beach was very nice with lots of chairs and umbrellas. The beds are small and lumpy. You are given 1 towel and no washclothes... strange... There are people constantly trying to sell you something on the beach. Top shelf liquor is extra. I tried to use their internet cafe but was told to leave because I did not pay extra to be in their 'club program'. The hotel lobby internet is worse than dial up - don't even bother trying to use it...
I loved the professional and courteous staff. The facilities were kept up well. I was blown away by the variety of food choices. I had a broken light fixture and a few lights weren't operable. The gym could use some new eguipment. Lastly, I thought the wifi cost was a bit outrageous and I was disappointed when I found out that we were only allowed a hour of complimentary service.
it's people The drinks, they have to upgrade them
We were at the Gran Bahia Principe El Portillo in May of 2013. We were pleasantly surprised. Beautiful hotel grounds, amazing beach, excellent food, and the staff were very friendly, pleasant and helpful. We cannot wait to go back.
We chose this resort and at the time there were only two photos on the website. We were surprised and delighted by the beauty of the hotel the closeness of the beach the warmth and the attentiveness of the staff. We went in the off season. We would go back in a heartbeat.
Great food, atmosphere and staff. The rooms are spacious and updated. The entertainment was good too. A top winner for us. Everything is centered to the front desk lobby so even when you leave the pool to go to the room you need to go thru the front desk lobby. But that should not stop you from going.
very clean yes pools closed early and bringing guest in was a huge problem and never had a problem the night before
Most of the staff was friendly and provided assistance when requested. Several room to far night activities, some of front desk need customer service training disengaged ,the tailing of guess by Juan for the Privilege Club, limited sitting at the Pescador Rest. activities geared more for European guest.
Just came back from spending the weekend there for the wedding of one of my closest friends with a total of 86 guests. So much went wrong, most importantly they did not try their best to make the wedding as special as it should have been. The Ceremony was on the beach absolutely beautiful. No complaints there. I wrote down a list of things that were wrong with the reception. Here it goes: - No Air Conditioning in the reception area which was one of the restaurants at the resort . They opened all the windows and we had to fan ourselves the whole time. A guest asked Georgina (the wedding organizer) about the air conditioning system and was told that it had been broken a few nights before They should have moved the wedding to another room with air conditioning to make it more comfortable for their guest. - The waiters were taking their time filling up champagne glasses for the toast. Half of the party had to toast with glasses of water. - Our table was not ready after we walked in fr...
