The resort was away from all the commotion of downtown and there was plenty to do; enjoying the quiet waterfront, playing glow golf, exploring the grounds and more. It's the best place to stay in the island for a couple or family getaway.
We loved the resort feel of this hotel with the restaurants and shops. Everything you needed was right there. When we asked for a change of room due to several circumstances, they were agreeable. We were originally placed in room 1111 in the main section, we found it to be too noisy being next to the elevator. This was also a very small room with a mini bathroom. After complaining about our neighbors who left their TV on all night and the racket from the elevator, they moved us to a larger room which I am sure was an upgrade.
Nothing We were lead to believe we were getting a cottage in the back of the grounds but instead we ended up in some kind of B&B no elevator and I am handicap so just getting up to the stairs was a pain no air conditioning and the temperature was in the mid to upper 80's the ice machine broke after the first night just not a very good place to stay don't waste your money a lot of better places to stay on the island
The front dest staff were all helpful and knowledgable - calling another hotel to see if their restaurant was open, renting bicycles ($5/hour, great deal!). We were looking forward to the included breakfast, and it exceeded my expectations with fresh fruit and a nice variety of other items. Now that it's getting cooler, they also had a heater for the outside eating area. It was a great experience overall.
we were very happy staying at the lake house. we would stay there again it is so close to everything.the only thing i would change is to have a room in the back of the hotel you can here everything that is going on outside.they wash the streets down every moring after bar time.
We booked our stay at the LakeView Hotel on Mackinac Island about 4 weeks ahead of time and were delighted with the choice. It was a very homey atmosphere, with lovely rooms and all the modern conveniences that we would look for in a less historic place. The beds were very comfortable, and the service was impeccable. It was overall a very positive and relaxing experience. We highly recommend this hotel.
The Island House is easy to reach on foot from the ferry piers in Mackinac, and they have porters who take your luggage to the hotel from the ferry (and back when you leave). It's an easy walk into the main 'downtown' area of the island, yet you are far enough away from the hustle and bustle to be able to escape it at will. Bike rentals are available right on the premises. The hotel has an excellent view over the marina and the Straits of Mackinac, with plenty of veranda and lawn seating out front to watch the world go by. Our room ended up being somewhat small and without a view, but it did have air conditioning, which during our trip in July was invaluable, as Mackinac was unusually hot. The larger rooms with the marina views did not appear to have A/C. The pool is small, and the water somewhat frigid, but the locals who stay here don't seem to mind. The one drawback I would mention is that there seemed to be no control over guests with loud children making noise well into the night ...
Wonderful location, nice comfortable rooms and staff. If you cannot afford the Grand Hotel, this is a nice option. Great views of marina and nice breakfast. If you keep the windows open, you can even smell fudge from the shops down the street.
The location was close enough to easily walk to from the Arnold Ferry dock, and our bags were delivered to our room from the ferry. Lawn chairs, a firepit and bike rentals were on the front lawn with a lovely view of the harbor. The Island House is close to restaurants and shopping, but quieter than being in the middle of 'downtown'. Fudge at the check in desk and the included breakfast buffet were delicious. The lobby and rocking chairs on the front porch were comfortable places to relax and the indoor pool and hot tub were hidden in a quiet area behind the hotel.
Loved the front porch. Spent much of our in between times sitting in the rocking chairs watching the water and boats. Very calming.
The dorm room roof was awful. SMALL space to stand up straight. Also, the 25 steps up because the elevator does NOT go to the 4th floor. No ice either on the 4th floor. Very HOT and HUMID the window shaker unit worked 24 x 7 just to circulate the air. Will stay at the Lake View next time or another hotel
We loved our trip to Mackinac Island, and the Island House Hotel was just a short walk from all the restaurants and shops. Our room was clean and comfortable. The service was okay, but not particularly friendly at the front desk. The best part was the free breakfast buffet in a lovely dining room overlooking Lake Huron.
We stayed here for the amiance and found it to be a reasonable alternative in an expensive locale. The rooms were functional but the location was wonderful. The morning breakfast was also the best of the trip in a beautiful dining area. I also enjoyed sitting out on the porch and watching the world go by! Very relaxing.
The room was small, old and out of date. But that isn't a complaint. The Island House is a very old hotel on an island that prides itself on minimizing the impact of the 20th and 21st century. I'm alway mystified by seeing reviews of this hotel and others on Mackinac Island that complain about amenities. Of course the amenities are old-fashioned! This isn't Las Vegas! The hotel was delightful, and we enjoyed sitting on the veranda and looking out on the lawn and the lake. The location is splendid, just a few steps from the ferry docks. Breakfast in the restaurant was good, and the hotel was cooperative in helping us get to the somewhat distant restaurant we went to for dinner. The lobby was classy and like something out of the 19th century. We had a great time. There were downsides. The room was small and the floor a bit sloped, Internet connectivity was iffy and slow, and the window looked out on a walkway that had people walking by. There were much better rooms, it appeared, but we...
We(2adults + 2 ten year olds) stayed for 3 nights. Great location-close to downtown area. Bike rental right in front of hotel is very convenient. The included breakfast was awesome - pancakes(blueberry one day and banana another), frenchtoast, scrambled eggs, french toast, oatmeal, cereal, homemade pastries, fresh fruit, juice, coffee-great selection. The hot tub was closed most of the time and the pool looked odd-greenish. Our room was a little small, but we knew it was going to be ahead of time. It would have been great to have a desk or a table and chair to be able to use. Check-in and out were fine- friendly staff.
I would stay in the hotel again. The breakfast (included) was very good as was the location. Our room was small and located in a rather difficult area. The elevator did not go up to the floor where our room was so we needed to go up a couple of flights of stairs to get to it. But other than that, it was a pleasant stay.
The best view and perfect location. Just out of town enough to not be crowded, but close enough to enjoy the buzz of town.
THIS HOTEL IS IN AN IDEAL LOCATION FROM THE DOCKS AND DOWNTOWN AREA. VERY CLOSE TO THE FORT AND VISITOR'S CENTER AND WITHIN SHORT WALKING DISTANCE TO MARKET ON THE CORNER FOR QUICK SUPPLIES. THE HUGE FRONT PORCH HAS PLENTY OF ROOM FOR GUESTS TO SIT AND AN EXCELLENT VIEW OF THE MARINA. ALSO, THE SITTING AREA WITH THE CHIMMEA AND S'MORES KITS ADDS A NICE TOUCH IN THE EVENINGS. BREAKFAST BUFFET WAS GREAT. HAD BEEN TO HIS HOTEL MANY YEARS AGO. IT WAS NICE TO GO BACK.
