Central location and close proximity to the Mall area were both positives. The staff was OK as long as honesty isn't a criteria. When we arrived, we were given the wrong room (one king bed does not work for a family of two grandparents, one adult daughter and a baby). We were told that they were sorry, moved to a two-queen bed room, and assured we would be given a different room the next day. When we went to the desk the next day, we were told that we were on a waiting list if there was a cancellation but no rooms were available--that they would call us if a room was available. They then put us back in our original room. Unfortunately we had pre-paid. They refused to issue a refund, citing the clause in the pre-pay agreement. We paid for the two-king room, were given a one-king and had to rent a room in a nearby hotel for our adult daughter and grand-child. The two-queen room we had on night one was filthy. The one-king room was cleaner. The fireplace in the one-king room did not work. They did not service the room everyday. It seemed to be a "by chance" sort of system--some days we had housekeeping, other days we did not.
The room was dirty, with dirty wash clothes laying on the floor when I arrived. There was patch work done to the walls with no paint. The walls had many stains, scuffs, and mystery substances. The ice bucket had some sort of syrup all over it and in it. The bathroom had toothpaste all over the walls, the counter had not been wiped and there was someone else's facial hair trimmings all over. The wash cloths had holes in them as well. Can't say I would stay here again.
The beds were super comfortable, my business partner was impressed with the complementary starbucks coffee. Unfortunately the furnace was out.
The staff was very nice, and the room appeared very clean. The breakfast buffet is better than most at mid level hotels, and the bar is very nice. That being said there were many small details that just seemed to not be as well maintained as in previous visits i.e. elevator kind of dirty, suggestion box falling off wall,etc. Small I know, but they add up. Was really annoyed I couldn't watch the Cubs game in my room, and we had an infestation of gnats. Refrigerator rattled, and even with the air set at 60 we were hot. I have always enjoyed staying here, but last time we stayed at the Hyatt, and pretty sure that is where we will return to next visit.
It was a great stay as always. The breakfast is always amazing. Good restaurant and friendly staff.
The room was clean. Everyone at the Front Desk was kind & helpful. The Breakfast Bar attendant was great... nice smile. Location was great right across from "Constitution Trail" for biking. Not having digital cable in room so we could watch the Cards/Giants Post Season game Sun. night. Also, the word "Tavern" has an older meaning to it. I would suggest it be changed to "Bar & Grill" or something more modern.
We stayed for 2 nights during Special Olympics state competition, and were impressed with lots of delicious options at breakfast. Our room was clean and comfortable. There were no issues with noise during our stay in late August. It would be nice if the breakfast opened earlier than 7 am on the weekend.
