Nice view. The head of the beds are placed along the wall that separates the room from the exterior breezeway. There is a large window over the beds. It is EXTREMELY noisy (echo is terrible- each door closing sounds like a slam) and people were loud (running/screaming) and have no consideration of other guests. I had to call and complain about the people in the room next door, multiple times, who were screaming, fighting, and throwing things (there was broken glass in the breezeway the next morning). I chose this hotel to have a quiet get away and get rest between two long back to back drives, and I didn't sleep at all. I understand that they cannot control the fighting of guests in their rooms, but all they did was knock and tell them to keep it down (I know this because the breezeway is so loud I could hear everything perfectly). The couple was not "just being loud," it was a domestic disturbance and should have been handled differently or told to vacate... Also, the rooms are old. Bathrooms need updating. The coffee pot was pitiful. Coffee pods provided don't even go with that kind of 20 yr old Mr. Coffee off brand. Very disappointed.
Staff was pleasant and courteous. Public facility was adequate for the price. Beach and pool close at hand. Room just bare bones with great view. Could have used a few nicer touches and some effort a decoration and class.
The hotel is a great place to spend a vacation. The rooms are kept up nicely although they are older. The view from each room is spectacular and the kitchenette is sufficient to prepare snacks. This is not my first trip to Shell Island and I would recommend it to others. The staff like many other places these days doesn't quite understand how to interact with customers. The hotel management walks right by you without a smile or a greeting. However, the maintenance staff was friendly. Reported a clogged cammode that was never fixed and I we were bitten up by sand fleas. I mentioned it to the desk and was told with a smile that they come in through the doors. Thanks Albert Einstein for the lesson. Also charge $2.50 for a cup of coffee which should be complimentary.
Accommodations were amazing, the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful and the extras like a wonderful breakfast and fantastic hot tub really added a lot. The room wasn't cheap, even on a cheap night. The breakfast, hotel facilities, etc--are all top notch, but certainly are things you noticeably pay for in your room cost. I highly recommend a stay here if planning to take advantage of all of these to the fullest--it then is certainly worth the room cost.
Location. Amenities. Price. VERY expensive for the value. I have paid $200 less a night for way better hotels. But this is the only place on the beach basically so they can jack up the rates and get away with it.
Beachfront, staff friendly on beach and in restaurant. Complimentary breakfast was very good. However the AC stopped working around 5am and was not fixed until 9 pm that evening. No one seemed to know when it would be repaired. Couldn't open windows because no screens.. I asked 2 different desk clerks if they would offer any type of compensation for this issue. Both of them promised to speak with the manager and get back in touch. I left both phone and email contact info. Never heard from anyone.Wont recommend or stay there again.
