The beds were comfortable and breakfast was good - although some variety from eggs, potatoes, and sausage would have been nice since we stayed 4 nights and had the same options 3 of the 4 mornings. The room was very clean and seemed well maintained. The pool and spa were under construction until Sept 1 and we were not aware until we checked in. The walls, doors and floors/ceilings are also very thin. We heard footsteps over our heads that woke us up in the middle of the night and there were several very squeeky floorboards. We also heard every hallway conversation as people passed by. From our room we could also hear people going up and down the stairs to the second floor and the laundry getting done in the morning. The fan in the bathroom also only turned on when you walked around in the bathroom as it was hooked up to a sensor that had a hard time determining if you were in the room.
The Iron Horse is still somewhat new, and it has all the amenities we were looking for in a ski resort location: Easy access to the Gondola, underground parking, ski lockers, high quality appliances and cookware, great beds, and fireplace. The Iron Horse blended well with the Village and all the restaurants, bars, and activities offered there. In fact, we did not have to drive anywhere the entire four days of our stay. The staff is pleasant and responsive, but the reception experience could have been more pro-active. I probably missed a few amenities because nobody went over all the Iron Horse has to offer. No big deal, because we really didn't want to get into an 'orientation,' but the concierge position could be put to better use.
was a little loud on Saturday night with the tough mudder bunch!!!!!!!!!!
Reservation manager did try to accommodate us with a balcony and perhaps cleaner carpeting. This hotel was nothing like I had hoped. Tiny, filthy carpet, 2000 feet from the pool. The room was twice as far as anticipated. It felt more like a fancy jail cell. I stayed 30 minutes on a 2 day prepaid reservation. No refunds, no fun. Don't stay here.
Booked last minute and paid a bit more than we had liked but we loved the place! The location is gorgeous and perfectly nestled between Truckee and Sugar Bowl resort. Waking up to run the 7 miles around the lake then taking the beautiful back road into Sugar Bowl to ski for the afternoon was an ideal day made possible by waking up at Donner Lake VIllage! Priced a little high.
